The New York State Inter-Agency Fire Safety Working Group, which includes NYSERDA, was established on July 28, 2023, following several energy storage system fire incidents to evaluate risks and strengthen safety standards.
NOTE! BESS incidents are often not publicly reported due to limited reporting requirements (only major events mandated), along with companies’ concerns about liability, confidentiality and reputational risk.
